Rakan Dabdoub

A pioneering Iraqi painter and sculptor and one of the leading figures of Mosul, Rakan Dabdoub studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad under Faiq Hassan, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (1961–1965), and won the Dante Prize in Rome in 1962.

Biography

He held 36 solo exhibitions and remained devoted to his city until his death. He taught at the University of Mosul until his retirement in 1993, and died in Mosul in 2017.
